Abstract
470,121. Switch bases and cases. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES. April 15, 1936, No. 10817. Convention date, April 15, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A base or fitting for use with a system wherein the conductors are laid on the brickwork so as to be covered by the subsequent plastering, is provided with inlets for the cable ends such that the opening extends down to the outer surface of the base and the cross-piece over the inlet retains the cable and prevents strain on the adjacent plaster due to movement of the cable ends while connections are being made. The cross-pieces may be integral with the fitting or separate therefrom. The interior of the fitting provides sufficient space for long free cable ends. When a switch is mounted in the box it may project partially above the wall surface the cover being shaped accordingly or if the box itself projects above the surface, superposed rings may be used to build up a surround to fit under the cover. The switch &c. may be let into a gap in the base of the fitting to rest directly on the brickwork of the wall, or it may extend into a well 60, Fig. 22 in the base 26 of the box, the sunk part of the base being cemented into a hole cut in the brickwork. This gives a firm mounting to resist the mechanical strains arising in the use of the switch. The box may be shaped to provide an open top 90, Fig. 25, corresponding in size to the switch &c. 91, the lower part 92 being enlarged to accommodate the cable ends or through cables.
