Abstract
468,975. Hydraulic transmission of power. CLENCH, E. C. S., and AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. Feb. 5, 1936, No. 3527. Addition to 443,839. [Class 69 (ii)] The invention described in the parent Specification is modified, in that means are provided for positively preventing the byepass valve device from being automatically opened, due to the operator letting go of the handle while the latter is disposed within a predetermined part of its range of movement. The operating handle 11 is mounted on a shaft 12 which carries a crank 34, and on this is a pin 35 carrying a roller 36 which moves within a slot 37 in the connecting piece 17 of the two piston elements 16, 16a. This connecting piece carries also a projection having a notch 70 into which a spring-pressed detent can enter when the pistons are in mid-position. A flange on the shaft 12 carries a sleeve having a flange 41, and upon this are mounted a masking cam member 44 and an outer sleeve 45 all spring-pressed together so as to be frictionally operated through rings 42, 43 from the flange 41. The member 34 has an upstanding part 44 with a detent opening into which the nose of a lever 55 can move when the pistons are in the central or nearly central position. The levers are connected to a lever 32 which acts upon a ball valve for the cylinder to be coupled to a make-up reservoir. The detent member 55 is wider than the cam plate and overlaps the disc 46 which is provided with an upstanding flange 82 over a portion of its circumference, and acts as a masking plate to prevent the detent 55 entering the slot 44 and so preventing the final lever 32 from acting on the byepass valve to put the apparatus into communication with the reservoir. The casing 10 serves as a reservoir and is adapted to be filled through a stopper 20. This stopper is utilized to carry a spring-restrained button 21 which button, when pressed inwardly, acts upon a lever 59 and so ultimately upon the lever 32 to positively open the system to the relevant reservoir.
