Abstract
468,337. Electrolysis. CREMER, A. Dec. 11, 1936, Nos. 34134 and 34135. Convention dates, Dec. 12, 1935 and Nov. 21, 1936. [Class 41] In apparatus for the electrodeposition of metals comprising closely spaced parallel electrodes 3, 4 a portion of the electrolyte is withdrawn by a pump 29 and delivered through a pipe 30 to injectors 27 from which it is projected between the electrodes carrying with it the general body of the electrolyte in a regular stream which returns by a lower channel 19. A number of such circulating arrangements may be spaced along a trough-like cell, a part of the electrolyte passing in succession between each group of electrodes. The anodes are constituted by lead sheet coverings 4 on partitions 2 mounted on the base 16 ; the partitions are formed to provide a converging and diverging passage 26 near the injectors. Starting sheets 5 to receive the deposit are mounted over the cathodes 3 and fastened at 6. The cathodes are supported by a dished cover 13 having ribs 23 engaging grooves in porcelain blocks 25 to form a water seal. The cathodes are connected by a conductor 11, the end of which rests on a bus-bar section 7. The anodes are connected to a successive bus-bar section and thence to the anodes of the next group. The bus-bar sections may be bridged so as to short-circuit any group by keys 37. In a modification, a partition is arranged across the cell on the up-stream side of each group of electrodes and is provided with a single passage bounded by converging and diverging walls into which the injectors project. Specification 187,607, [Class 41], is referred to.
