Abstract

468,287. Hot air and gas power plant. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. Jan. 1, 1936, No. 56. Convention date, July 12, 1935. [Class 7 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a power plant, the working-fluid, preferably air, is heated in a coil 2 placed within a combustion chamber 1, enters and exhausts from a turbine 3, which drives a generator 4 and a compressor 5, and is exhausted at 6 into a heat-exchanger 7 in which working-fluid compressed in the compressor 5 is heated before entering the coil 2. The air exhausted from the turbine into the exchanger 7 is at a practically constant pressure and is cooled to at least 150‹ C. A cooling system 13 ... 16, fed by a pump 12, is provided for the compressor 5, and a coil 25 may cool the pipe 11. Hot exhaust gases from the chamber 1 pass through a pipe 17 into a heat-exchanger 18 in which the air passing into the chamber 1 is heated. A blower 20 supplies the air. As a governing means, working medium may be added to or withdrawn from the working cycle by means of storage containers 24, 24<1>. The container 24 is supplied from the atmosphere by a compressor 23 and is connected to an inlet valve 10<1> of a regulator 10. An outlet valve 10<2> leads to the container 24<1>. According to the adjustment of the valves 10<1>, 10<2> , air flows from the container 24 into the enclosed cycle or out of it. A governor on the turbine or the generator may control the valves 10<1>, 10<2>. The working- fluid may be throttled before or after the turbine. In a modified plant, the turbine is in two sections, one driving a generator and the other the compressor. The working - fluid passes through the first turbine and is returned to a heating coil in the chamber 1, to be restored to about its original temperature, before being led to the second turbine. The turbine may run at different speeds. Other gases such as helium, hydrogen, or nitrogen may be used in place of air. The container 24 may store up compressed air for starting-up the turbine.
