Abstract
468,274. Water-tube boilers. BLATCHFORD, A. O. Sept. 29, 1936, No. 26385. [Class 123 (ii)] A water-tube steam boiler or water heater comprises a number of blocks of tubes 4 connected to transverse horizontal headers 5, which are located in pairs connected by short ascending conduits 6, the tubes being arranged in zigzag manner at a slight inclination and baffles 12 being disposed so as to confine combustion gases from a furnace 1 to a zigzag path passing along the tubes of one block, around the lower header of each pair and between the headers to the next block. The uppermost header is connected to a drum 8 from which water is fed by a duct 10 to the lowest header. Blocks of tubes may be arranged on both sides of a common drum which may be horizontal. The baffles may consist of a pair of overlapping iron sheets resting loosely upon the tubes.
