It is formed as a one-piece unit from thin material such as sheet metal or celluloid, and has a shape in plan corresponding to the shape of the collar when in use. The flange is vertical at the rear and slopes outwardly at the sides and front. Cut-outs are formed in the flange at the front and back of the former to clear the studs in the shirt.
