[Class 55 (ii)] Gum, oil fog, and tar are removed from coal gas by passage through tubes h carried by a partition plate g and in proximity to a baffle plate d provided with offset apertures f. A plate i is raised and lowered by a screw j to vary the number of tubes open to the gas flow; or the plate i may be actu ated automatically in accordance with the pressure drop across the plate g, which should be about 10 to 12 inches water gauge.
