Abstract
467,745. Door latches. EVERED & CO., Ltd., and WILSON, A. H. Feb. 8, 1936, No. 3880. [Class 44] The outwardly presented face 6<a> of a rim latch casing 6 and its surrounding rim are made of non-metallic material such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite " ; the inner side of the face is reinforced by a metal plate 10 on which the parts of the latch mechanism are assembled. The shank of the handle knob which fits over the spindle carrying the hub 16b of the follower 16, is provded with a bearing surface 6<c> in the casing face, while a smaller surface is provided in the plate 10 for the follower hub 16b. The latch bolt is made of two metal stampings 8<a> to give a forked rear part and a tubular central part 8<b> to house the spring 15 on a headed pin 14 held against the fixed post 12. A tongue on the bolt head 8 is inserted between the forward ends of the stampings and is riveted in position. The latch is held in its locked or unlocked position by means of a projection 8d on the bolt which is engaged by a rib or corrugation 7<c> on a plate 7b which can be moved vertically by a sliding member with a thumb-piece 7<a> made of the same material as the casing. The latch may be operated by a handle on both sides of the door, or by a handle on one side and by a key on the other.
