Abstract

466,879. Photographic processes. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges.) Sept. 7, 1935, No. 24957. [Class 98 (ii)] A protective layer for developed photographic material is obtained by applying whilst the latter is still wet from operations following development, an aqueous dispersion of a natural or artificial colloid comprising either a highly polymerized organic compound or a nitrogenous organic compound of high molecular weight. Examples of colloids to be used are polyacrylic acid methyl ester, mixed polymerizates from polyvinyl chloride and polyacrylic acid methyl ester, casein, phenolformaldehyde resin, and albumen. The aqueous dispersion of these substances should contain an organic solvent or a wetting agent. Acetone, methanol, glycerin or formaldehyde may be included in the treating solution. The layer may be applied by drawing the film through the dispersion, or by coating and a smoothing agent, hardening agent and softening agent may be included in the aqueous dispersion.
