[Class 40 (iii)] The characters are decomposed in vertical and horizontal rows of basic elemental points, like a chequer board, and impulses are transmitted corresponding to such analysis. Line distributers 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 produce trains of impulses corresponding to a scanning of the vertical rows of elemental points and are connected in desired sequence to a transmitting-line by a character distributer 70. Key contacts 11 .. 15, 37, 47, 57, 67, which correspond to the elemental points occurring in the scanning-lines of the particular character, are connected to contacts 21 .. 25, 33, 43, 53, 61 .. 65 allocated to those elemental points in the respective line distributers. All the key contacts for the character are connected to one transmitting-line, when the key 7 is depressed, and the other transmitting- line is connected through the character distributer to the rotary brushes 26, 36, 46, 56, 66 of the line distributers in turn. Impulses, corresponding to groups of elemental points which recur in a character, are transmitted by the same line distributer, Fig. 3 (not shown). For groups of elemental points which occur in different 'characters, some line distributers, upon the actuation of a single associated key contact, transmit impulses corresponding to. the entire group. All, the distributers are set in motion by the pressing of a key. Alternatively, the line distributers rotate continuously and only the character distributer is set in motion by pressing the key. A positive coupling ensures that the distributers are coupled in the correct phase.
