Abstract
464,730. Induction motors. ARCHDALE, R. L. (Markes & Co., Ges.) July 22, 1936, No. 20266. [Class 35] The stator of a reversible shaded pole motor has at least two windings arranged on different yoke sides but adjacent to the same pole and an additional winding giving low voltage current with the short circuited rotor operative or stationary. In the form shown, the two stator pole-pieces (not shown) carry two sets of shading coils either of which can be open-circuited at will and the yoke carries exciting windings 2, 8 and a winding 4 serving as the secondary of a transformer. With both windings, 2, 8 energized the flux produced by both windings traverses the rotor parallel to the axes of these windings but with coil 2 de-energized, the bulk of the flux takes the path shown by dotted lines with the result that the rotor is arrested, the winding 4 however still being effective.
