[Class 100 (iv)] In a duplicating attachment for typewriters, of the kind having at least two additional ink-ribbons, carriers at both sides of the platen for the retention of the ribbons in register with the writing line, and spools on the said carriers, each copying ribbon together with its spools and carrier and a pivot rod connecting the latter together constitutes a separate structural element which is freely rotatable about the pivot rod and is so mounted on the typewriter carriage that it can be swung upwards and backwards relatively to the platen. A bearing plate 31 is screwed to the paper apron B and is provided with an adjustable portion having at each end a slot 33. Into this slot may be dropped spindles 34 to which are - secured at each end curved sheet metal carrier strips 35, provided with deflecting ribbon guides 37. Each duplicating ribbon F, is fed from a supply reel 36 mounted on the strip 35, down one of the strips 35, across the printing line of the platen and up the other strip 35 to take-up reels 36. The take-up reels 36 are rotated by spring-returned levers 40, pivoted on the axes of the reels and carrying pawls 42 engaging ratchet wheels 43. Spring detents 47 for the ratchet wheels are provided, and spring brake-fingers engage the supply reels. The motion of the levers 40 is limited by pins 46 and slots 45. The levers 40 overlie each other so that when the uppermost is depressed all the ribbons are fed. Alternatively the ribbon-feed mechanisms may be automatically actuated, through suitable transmission mechanism, from a moving part of the typewriter.
