Abstract

464,112. Electrically producing photographs. GOLDMANN, F. Oct. 12, 1935, No. 28240. Convention date, Oct. 13, 1934. [Class 98 (ii)] In a process for the production of pictures, an electrolytic layer is placed in contact with a semi-conductor layer in contact with a metal electrode, a counter-electrode is placed in contact with the electrolytic layer, connection between the electrodes is established by a source of current, and an image is projected on the semi-conductor layer, the electrolytic layer being such that when a current passes through it, the material of the semi-conductor layer or of the counter-electrode is caused to enter into a chemical reaction in order to form an image in the electrolytic layer. As shown, G1, G2 are glass or celluloid plates, M1, M2 are metallic layers, H is a cuprous oxide or selenium semi-conductor layer, and E is an electrolytic layer comprising gelatine soaked in a non-light-sensitive salt solution. The metallic layers M1, M2 are connected to a current source V through a circuit comprising a switch K and a resistance W. The connections to the source of current may be reversed. The image in the electrolytic layer may be strengthened by chemical treatment or physical development. The image may also be strengthened by continued electrolysis in the absence of light. The image may be removed by reversed electrolysis, or influenced locally by a needle or bracketshaped electrode. Alternating or interrupted current may be used.
