Abstract
464,096. Rotary engines. KEELAVITE CO., Ltd., and BOOTH, M. B. July 6, 1935, Nos. 8930/37 and 9266/37. Divided out of 463,931. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine or pump comprises a rotor 2 with vanes 14, each having two curved sealing surfaces, the vanes rotating in a direction opposite to that of the rotor. A liner 6 rotates in unison with the rotor, and is provided with grooves 37 which accommodate the tips of the vanes. The vane shafts are driven through gears 22, 24, by intermediate gears which mesh with a fixed gear 21. Fig. 1 illustrates an engine having two working chambers on each side of a fixed partition 11 having axial extensions 32, 35 which form the abutments placed between the rotor and the liner 6. Fig. 3 shows another form in which the capacity of each working chamber may be altered by the axial sliding of end walls 44, 45, by means of a crank-shaft 48. Shrouds 41 provide recesses into which the ends of the vanes are accommodated during the bodily movement of a rotor and its gears. To balance the end pressures, ducts such as 53 are provided. The vanes may be flat plates, with curved tips, or formed as in Fig. 6. In the latter engine, the rotating liner is dispensed with. In another form each vane may have a circular boss around its shaft which forms a seal with an abutment during its passage past the abutment. In a hydraulic transmission gear, a motor and a pump may be coupled together in the manner described in Specification 463,931. Specification 464,097 also is referred to.
