Abstract
463,892. Casting composite bearings. MONZER, A. Feb. 13, 1936, Nos. 4417 and 4418. Convention dates, Feb. 15, 1935 and March 30, 1935. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds ; casting processes.-A bearing is made by casting aluminium or an alloy thereof about a bush of lead bronze or the like 2. The bush is supported, by a steel collar 9 if necessary, on a chill 1 of such thickness that it will prevent liquation of the bush alloy without causing a too rapid solidification of the cast metal. The chill 1 may also be cooled internally. The mould may be first filled with nitrogen or other inert gas, preferably hot, by means of a passage 7, and the runner 4 preferably communicates with a dead-head passage 5 which may have an air vent 13<a>, and serves to eliminate dirt and bubbles and assist in heating the mould 8, if of metal as shown.
