Abstract
463,351. Desuperheating steam. HOPKINSONS, Ltd., BROWN, R. L., and DALE, W. B. March 26, 1936, No. 8987. [Class 55 (ii)] Steam is caused to flow in contact with the outside of a spray-type desuperheater before entering it so as to effect evaporation of spray impinging on the walls. An outer casing c surrounding an open-bottomed desuperheater chamber a receives superheated steam which heats the chamber walls before diversion upwardly by a baffle f into contact with water sprays from nozzles e. Water draining from the chamber passes through a hole g in the baffle and openings h<1> in the rim of a platform h to a collecting compartment j, a packing ring m held by spring pressure between the baffle and platform and in contact with the outer casing preventing superheated steam passing directly into the compartment.
