461,554. Lenses. ZEISS, C., [Firm of]. Nov. 14, 1936, No. 31133. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1935. [Class 97 (i)] In a photographic objective for large image fields consisting of three members separated by air, the front member being divergent, the rear and medial members are menisci with concave sides facing the front member and are respectively convergent and divergent, the focal length of the convergent member is numerically at most two-fifths of that of either divergent member, and the distance apart of the front vertices of the first and second members is at least three quarters of the focal length of the whole system. The rear member is a doublet consisting of two lenses of different refractive indices with a convergent cemented surface. The air space between the rear and medial members is less than one tenth of the distance between the front vertices of the front two members. Data are given for the example shown which is spherically corrected for an aperture f /8.
