Abstract
460,833. Supplying fuel. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. Sept. 9, 1936, No. 24643. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1935. [Class 7 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] To prevent vapour locks in the fuel-supply line of an internal-combustion engine, a separating chamber 13 is connected by a stand pipe 10, containing a non-return valve 11, to the supply line 2 between the fuel tank 1 and the pump 3 supplying the carburetter 4. The chamber 13 contains steel wool or glass beads &c. 15 and a perforated plate 14. A pipe 16 having a trap 18 connects the upper part of the chamber 13 to the air inlet 5 of the carburetter. When a vacuum tank is employed instead of the pump the chamber 13 is situated between the tank and the carburetter and at a higher level than the tank.
