Abstract

Crude natural waxes are refined and may be fractionated by short-path high-vacuum distillation. For example, crude flax wax is distilled under a vacuum of 10<--4>--10<--5> mm. mercury with the evaporating and condensing surfaces 1 cm. apart, fractions being taken with the evaporating surface at 100, 160, 210--220 and 230--240 DEG C. In other examples, carnauba wax, candelilla wax and Japan wax are treated.
