Abstract
Aqueous melts of salts or concentrated solutions of salts other than magnesium sulphate, are wholly or partially dehydrated by atomizing the salt melts or solutions and treating them with superheated steam. Except that the temperature of the superheated steam may be allowed to fall to 120 DEG C. during the dehydration, the process is carried out in the manner described in the parent Specification. In examples: (1) Fused Glauber's salt at 110--120 DEG C. is atomized through nozzles into a tower and treated with a counterflow of superheated steam entering at 400 DEG C. and leaving at 150 DEG C.; (2) Fused Epsom salt at 120 DEG C. is similarly atomized and dehydrated with steam entering at 550 DEG C. and leaving at 200 DEG C.; (3) When treating fused magnesium chloride hexahydrate the steam may be used at 250 DEG C. and be cooled to 120 DEG C.; (4) A hot concentrated solution of ferrous sulphate may be atomized at 110--120 DEG C., and be treated with steam entering at 200 DEG C. and leaving at 120 DEG C. The superheated steam may be used at atmospheric or higher or lower pressures as desired.
