[Class 143] In a weighing and computing scale having a load receiver above and carried by a base lever which actuates means to resist the force of the load and which also serves to rotate a drum chart bearing columns of indications, the chart is nested within a shell and the shell is housed within an outer casing, these parts being nested one within the other to render the structure compact, the only part external to the casing being'the load receiver. The chart drum 15, formed in two spaced sections, has its lower half situated in a semi-cylindrical shell 11 secured to the base 178, and is actuated by a rack 18 under the control of counterbalancing springs 19. The platform support 22, of inverted Y-shape, passes between the two sections of the chart and rests on the load knife-edges 71 of a rectangular lever 16 embracing the semi-cylindrical shell 11 and fulcrumed thereon by means of knife-edges 51. One end of the lever 16 is connected to the indicator rack 18. An adjustable check lever 26 prevents tilting of the platform. A unit price strip 31 is secured at the salesman's side of the chart. One end of the drum spindle is supported in a detachable bracket 62, secured to an end closure plate of the semi-cylindrical shell 11, in order to facilitate removal or insertion of the drum. The mechanism is enclosed in an outer case converging at the top 27 and provided with reading lenses 28, 29. Lateral tilting of the lever 16 is limited by fixed stops and is cushioned by spring-pressed rollers bearing upon the backs of the fulcrum knife-edges 51. A zero-adjustment weight is provided on the lever, and lamps 181 illuminate the chart. Spirit levels 168 and levelling screws 176 are also provided.
