Abstract
457,642. Casting. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., 88, Regent Street, London. July 1, 1936, No. 18301. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1935. [Class 83 (i)] To increase the output of molten metal from the heating furnace to the moulds a reservoir furnace 17 of large capacity is placed between the electric heating furnace 11 and the ladle 29, the ladle reciprocating with a mould 19 during the filling thereof and returning to aline with a new mould. The ladle is fed from a trough 36 in which molten metal continuously flows from the furnace 17, which may be coal fired. This furnace is fed by a trough 15, into which metal is poured from the furnace 10, which pivots about a centre 11. The moulds are supported by carriers 20 from a conveyer chain 21, which is supported by trolleys 23 from I-beams 22 or the like. In Fig. 5 is shown the arrangement of the ladle 29 and its tipping by a band wheel 32 working through reduction gearing. The trough 36 is shown partly in section and is shaped and positioned so that its spout is always over the ladle, the tipped position of which is shown in broken lines 34. The ladle is reciprocated by an electric motor and runs on rails 24. A baffle prevents slag entering the pouring spout.
