Abstract
457,536. Road-surface markings. SHAW, P., 1, Mill Lane, Boothtown, Halifax, Yorkshire. May 31, 1935, No. 15826. [Class 3 (ii)] In road blocks for surface markings, such as those described in Specification 436,290, in which reflectors are provided on raised blocks which yield when travelled over by the wheel of a vehicle, means are provided whereby the reflectors are automatically cleaned during the movement of that part of the block in which the reflectors are mounted. The yielding block A is supported at its ends in a metal casting B by projections b<1>, which pass through holes in the end of the block, and in one form of the invention, shown in Figs. 1 and 3, two edge portions a of the block, situated immediately below the reflectors, and separated from the main portion of the block by slits D, are supported by means of lugs b. When the block is depressed, the reflectors are wiped against the fixed portions a. In a modification, Fig. 6, suitable rubber or other wipers F are mounted in the walls of the metal casting. In another modification, Fig. 7, holes G are provided so that when the block is depressed the air trapped beneath the block is ejected in the form of jets which serve to clean the reflectors. In all three modifications, the part of the block which is depressed may be resiliently supported by a flexible rubber support E. Instead of being supported at the ends by means of the projections b<1>, the block A may be formed with recesses at the sides to engage projections in the walls of the casting.
