Abstract

456,550. De-airing clay &c. WILLIS, J. M., Oakleigh House, Moira Road, and WILLIS, C. L., Rawdon, Willesley Park, both in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Sept. 26, 1935, No. 26614. [Class 87 (ii)] In de-airing apparatus wherein clay or other material is forced from a worm chamber through slots or openings 12 in a pair of adjoining plates 10, 11 into a vacuum chamber, one plate 10 is fixed and the other is capable of movement so that the degree of register of the openings in the two plates can be varied. The plates may be circular and the openings radially arranged with concentric and radial ribs 14, 13 between them. The plate 11 may be rotated to vary the register by a pinion or worm 17 on a shaft 15 engaging a segmental rack 18. The shaft may be operable by a wheel or handle externally of the chamber. The plate may rotate on rollers carried by brackets and engaging a path on that face of the plate nearer to the vacuum chamber. In an alternative construction, the plates are rectangular and the plate 11 is slidably moved by a screw spindle engaged with a bracket on the plate by collars and screwed through the wall of the chamber. The plate may be in two halves which may be slid together or apart in this way. Specification 421,860 is referred to.
