Abstract

455,140. Hydraulic transmission of power. FRASER, W., 28, Stuart Avenue, Hunts Cross, Liverpool. April 17, 1935, Nos. 11815, 30540, and 32707. [Class 69 (ii)] In hydraulic power transmission mechanism, the driving shaft carries a liquid containing casing provided with radial cylinders, the pistons are actuated by a cam on the driven shaft and reciprocate in rotary balance, and the centrifugal effect in the inner zone causes liquid to pass automatically to the cylinders to replenish leakage. In the form shown, the pistons 10 are guided in cylinder liners 9, and have rollers 12 contacting with the cam 13 on the driven shaft 26, the arrangement being such that opposite pistons move in or out simultaneously. Bell-crank levers 29 engage the roller pins 11 of adjacent pistons by means of a flat spring 32, and the resilience of each spring 32 may be varied by adjusting a yoke 34 to vary the effective length of a recess 32 covered by the spring. A control valve 22 is floatably mounted on a stem 23, and each piston has a non-return valve 41. The number of pistons may be varied, and the driven shaft may have two cams, each acting on a separate series of pistons.
