Abstract
455,080. Variable-speed friction gearing. YOXALL, J., York House, Deganwy, Carnarvonshire. Jan. 13, 1936, No. 16012. Divided out of 450,246. [Class 80 (ii)] Relates to variable-speed gearing with toric discs and precessional rollers in which the precession is terminated by screwing action as described in Specification 380,485. Precession of rollers 55 to initiate speed changing between toric discs as described in Specification 450,246 is induced by relative angular displacement of a central barrel 20. Such displacement rocks three triple levers 22, each of which has outer arms 121 adapted to connect helical teeth or worms 59 which are carried at both ends of spindles 60 of carriers 58 of the rollers 55. The spindles 60 are slid in their bearings in a supporting drum 18 as the barrel 20 turns, and the precession thereby started continues until the worms 59 have screwed back to symmetrical position on a different speed ratio. Specification 440,686, [Group XXVIII], also is referred to.
