[Class 44] A self-closing gate is providec with a resilient buffer plate con nected to the gate bolt so that when the buffer plate is engagec by a vehicle bumper the bolt is withdrawn and the gate car then be pushed open. In the form shown, the gate 1 has a buffer plate on each side, each buffer comprising a blade spring 7 fixed to the gate at its upper end and faced with rubber 8 at its lower end and having a wedge member 10 which engages under one side of a T-head 11 on the sliding bolt 6, so that when the wedge is pushed in the bolt is lifted.
