Abstract
454,761. Valve gear; regulating. MAINA, J., 35, Maybury Mansions, Marylebone Street, London. Feb. 25, 1936, No. 5615. [Class 7 (vi)] A pair of inlet valves 1, or exhaust valves, are actuated by a cam 21 through a follower 17 engaging both valves and having a central extension 18 sliding in a sleeve 19 and prevented from rotation therein by a key 20 or other means, the follower contacting with tappet heads 3 adjustably screwed into the valve stems and locked in position by coned washers 5 engaging coned flanges 4 on the tappet heads. Projections 9 on the tappet heads engage slots in the valve stems. For adjusting the tappet heads, a forked spanner 16 is engaged with holes 13 formed in downwardly-extending ears 12 on the washer 5, which is then prised away from the tappet head by pressing the spanner 16 downwards. The tappet head is then free to be adjusted by means of a C-spanner 15 which is engaged in holes 14 around the tappet head. The follower 17 may be shaped to actuate more than two valves.
