Abstract

454,533. Guns. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., HIGSON, P. R., and GRANT, W., . Broadway, Westminster. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3213. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to muzzle-attachments for diminishing gun recoil of the kind comprising nested discs A with intermediate shaped passages A<2> for diverting the direction of the escaping gun gases so that a forward force is exerted on the gun. According to the invention, the passages are so arranged that the angles through which the gases are turned progressively diminish from front to rear so that the gases issue from the rear passages more or less at right angles to the axis of the gun and prevent rearward escape of the gases from inconveniencing the gunner. The discs are formed as shown in Fig. 3 with projections A<3> which form distance pieces and intermediate gas passages A<2> when the discs are nested together in a sleeve B screwed to the gun muzzle D. The discs have peripheral keys A<1> engaging longitudinal slots B<1> in the sleeve and are retained in place by screwed plug C. In order to reduce jump of the gun on discharge, the passages A<2> may be omitted from the lower portion of the discs. Specification 125,141, [Class 92 (ii)], is referred to.
