[Class 99 (ii)] Apparatus for cleaning hollow drills and other articles possessing longitudinal bores comprises a member arranged to support one end of such an article and a tube positioned to receive the opposite end thereof, the supporting member being capaable of vibration and the tube comprising cushioning means for the supported article. The tube 13 is pivotally connected at 8 to supply pipes 41, 36 for compressed air and comprises a piston 16 recessed to receive the upper end of the drill 1 and provided with a central passage through which air passes into the hollow drill. The lower end of the drill is supported on a dolley 27 having cross slots to receive the lower edges of the wings 4 of the drill and having a passage 31 through which air passes from the hollow drill. The shoulder 28 of the dolley rests on the top of a pneumatic hammer device 29, connected by pipes 34, 41 to the source of compressed air. The pipe 42 may be connected to a lubricant source. Alternatively, the device 29 may be operated mechanically, magnetically or hydraulically. The pneumatic cushion provided in the tube 13 may be replaced or supplemented by a spring cushioning device.
