453,851. Abrasive belts. CARBORUNDUM CO., Niagara Falls, New York, U.S.A. March 18, 1935, No. 8436. Convention date, May 21, 1934. Drawings to Specification. [Class 60] An abrasive belt consists of a plurality of independent transverse sections of abrasive coated fabric or paper secured to and spaced apart lengthwise of a plain backing of uniform thickness. The sections may be arranged obliquely on the backing and when woven fabric is used the woof and warp threads are preferably arranged obliquely. Each section may be of uniform or varying hardness and the hardness of the sections may differ. The spaces between adjacent sections may be filled with strips of fibrous material such as felt, grease or wire brushes. The belt may be stretched about a plurality of pulleys or set around the periphery of a drum. The adhesive securing the segments to the belt may be non- drying to facilitate replacement of worn segments. The segments may be made with an adhesive coating which is protected by a removable backing of paper or cloth. Specifications 16840/04 and 264,624, [both in Class 60], are referred to.
