Abstract
Cellulosic textile fibres or yarns or similar unwoven textile materials are given a permanent or semi-permanent series of local distortions which are set in the deformed position by the solidification within or upon the fibres or yarn of a substantial quantity of a synthetic resinous material; the deformation may be rendered resistant to washing by insolubilizing the condensation product and fabrics woven from the treated yarns or from yarns spun from treated fibres may be mercerized and/or subjected to acid treatment. Yarns for pile fabrics are produced by untwisting treated yarns and then twisting them in the reverse direction. The distortion of the yarn or fibre may be effected by fluted rollers or the yarn may be spirally wound and the distortions set by heat and pressure. Two examples of setting mixtures are given. Specifications 291,473 and 291,474, [both in Class 42 (i)], are referred to.
