Abstract

450,941. Imitation fires. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and PHILLIPS, L. E. A., Magnet House, Kingsway, London. Jan. 24, 1935, No. 2432. [Class 126] In an imitation fire, a flicker device comprising a number of reflecting surfaces rotated about a substantially horizontal axis directs light from a'source 9 through a mask 12 having a jagged edge on to a screen 10 at the back of the fire to produce an effect of upwardly-rising flames. In the form shown, the flicker device is formed of bright metal discs 2 carried on a shaft 1 rotated by a synchronous motor 6, and having their edges irregularly slotted and bent to form tongues which constitute the reflectors. An amber-coloured filter 11 is arranged in the path of the rays. Translucent imitation fuel 13 screens the flicker device from view and is illuminated by the lamps 9. In a modification, mirrors of irregular shape are carried on radial arms attached to the shaft, and a further form comprises a cylinder having a reflecting surface, preferably of polygonal shape, parts of which are painted black or cut away.
