[Class 146 (i)] In a loose-leaf book of the kind in which slit rings are rotatably mounted on a base member and a slide member is provided for conjointly turning all the rings, the slide member is so connected to the rings at their exterior circumference that they turn in pairs in opposite directions, so that the slits in the rings are aligned only in the position for removing the sheets, and are positioned on opposite sides while the rings are being moved into locking and unlocking position. The rings I, Fig. 3, are guided in transverse grooves 4a in a guide member 4, Fig. 6, and are rotated by oppositely sloping slots 5a, Fig. 7, in a slide member 5, which engage balls 2 held in projections 1a on the rings. The slide-member 5 is retained between a cover plate 3 and a base plate 6 secured together by bent over tabs 3b, and is worked by a handle 5b. The plate 3 has holes 3a through which the rings pass. The assembly is secured to the cover E by staples 7 held under a lining S and soldered to the plate 6. In a modification, the ball 2 is replaced by a projection on the ring and the plate 4 by separate guide plates for each ring. The plate 3 is then provided with a hole 3a and a slot for each ring, and the assembly is secured to the cover by tabs on the plate 6 passing through the lining S and through a plate underneath the lining. Two operating slides, worked from opposite ends of the binder, may be provided.
