Abstract
450,084. Hair-waving. BEAUTY UTILITIES, Inc., 48, Spring Street, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. Oct. 6, 1934, No. 28694. Addition to 433,351. [Class 131] The socket employed for producing steam from an electrolytic solution as set forth in the parent Specification is modified for use with hair wound on the Croquinole system. The inner electrode 2, Fig. 1, is spaced from upper electrode 8 by a layer 1 of absorbent material stitched to both at 9. The layer 1 overlaps the electrodes to avoid short circuiting. The inner electrode or foil 2 has an overlapping part 2a bent over the layer 1 with a paper insulator 6a having an extension or tongue lying over the foil 8. To provide access to the foil 8 (or an electric connection) the insulator 6a is cut away. The electrode 2 may be perforated as in the parent Specification and a paper insulator 6 may be secured by light waxing and may be perforated in register with the foil 2. In a modification in form, instead of the electrode 2 being bent over endwise as shown, a lateral tongue may be similarly employed. The electrical connections are shown in Fig. 3, Where the Croquinole method to wind a tress 3 on a roller 7 is employed, the rod 7 is mounted in bearings 5 of a holder comprising known pivoted clamping bars 4. An alternating current of low voltage may be used through a step down transformer 11. The absorbent layer may be impregnated with an electrolytic solution including a hair waving solution. The electrodes are advantageously made of lead foil containing a very small amount of tin so as to fuse readily. The heating pad may however serve as a means of heating only and a separate waving sachet may be used therewith.
