[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 17, 1936.] [Class 146 (i)] A compressor bar for a document file, of the type comprising a pair of longitudinal clamping-wires extending substantially longitudinally of the bar and adapted to engage the filing- posts, has mounted thereon a bridgeshaped lever provided with arms which, on the lever being centrally depressed, exert pressure on the wires to cause them to grip the filing- posts. The wires 32, Fig. 1, are held on the bar 30 by clips 31, and are formed with bends 33 which constitute application faces for lugs 36 on a pair of lever arms 37, whereby the straight outer portions of the wires are pressed together to grip the filing-posts. The lever arms 37 are pivotally connected together at the centre of the bar by means of offset tongues 38, and are retained on the bar by the engagement of the lugs 36 in slots 35 in the bar. The bar may have a central depression to accommodate the hinge portion of the lever arms in the depressed condition. The wires may have slots therein to accommodate the lugs 36 on the arms 37, or the lugs may have small rollers thereon, or the wires may have guides thereon at the parts where force is applied by the lugs. In a modification, the shapes of the clamping- wires are modified, the ends thereof are free, and the bridge lever arms so exert pressure on the wires that the central portions are pressed apart, and the ends are forced together to grip the filing-posts. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the wires 59 are straight normally, and a tapered nose portion 57 on each lever arm 55 is, when the bridge is centrally depressed as shown, adapted to press the wires apart at the centre and together near the ends. Guides 61 for the wires are situated near the ends 57 of the lever arms. Lugs 56 on the lever arms merely guide the arms in slots provided in the bar outside the wires.
