Abstract

Catalytic materials are mixed with a coal-oil mixture which is then carbonized to yield a coke or semi-coke in which the catalyst is finely distributed. The catalytic substances may subsequently be reduced or otherwise converted. The product may be used in the form in which it is produced or it may be ground and, if desired, pelletted with the aid of a binder. Examples of catalytic materials are (1) iron oxide or oxalate with or without an admixture of promoters, (2) nickel oxide, carbonate, nitrate, or formate, (3) copper oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, or nitrate. The soluble compounds may be used in solution. Specifications 431,063, [Group XII], 448,028, and 448,029 are referred to.
