Abstract
In the production of grey pig iron with a silicon content insufficient for ensuring a graphitic structure, pig iron containing only part of the desired silicon content, e.g. 0,2 per cent, is produced in the blast furnace and after it is run off, silicon, e.g. in form of ferrosilicon, is added so that the final silicon content of the pig iron is under 1 per cent and preferably does not exceed 0,6 per cent.
