Abstract

449,514. Speed governors. SOC. GENERALE DES CARBURATEURS ZENITH, 10, Rue Petitot, Geneva, Switzerland. Sept. 18, 1934, No. 26813. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 19, 1935]. [Class 57] To prevent the speed of an internal-combustion engine exceeding a predetermined value, a throttle valve 2, or other means for controlling the fuel supply, is connected to a piston 11, one side of which is subjected through pipe 14 to induction pressure and the other side may be subjected to atmospheric pressure through a passage 15 controlled by a valve 18. The valve 18 is integral with a piston 17 loaded by a spring 27 and by means of passage 16 is subjected to induction pressure. The pistons 11, 17 are loose fits in their cylinders and the piston 11 is loaded by springs 25, 26 the latter not coming into action until the piston stroke is advanced. On the predetermined speed being reached the valve 18 opens and admits atmospheric pressure which causes the valve 2 to close. When the valve 2 is almost fully closed the piston 11 covers the outlet of the pipe 14 or a port 21 is opened to admit air through port 22 to the cylinder. The lever 5 for manual actuation is connected to a lever 4 loosely mounted upon the spindle of the valve 2 and has a pin 7 engaging a projection 8 on the lever 3. Instead of the ports 21, 22, the rod 19 may have a groove of varying depth to admit air to the cylinder.
