Abstract
449,064. Stringed musical instruments. GODJEVATZ, V. V., 24, Uhlandstrasse, Charlottenburg, Berlin. Oct. 2, 1935, No. 27243. Convention date, July 31. [Class 88 (ii)] Each string 1 of a musical instrument of the violin type is provided with a rotating annular bow 2, which is pivotally moved into contact with its string by a key 10. The bow comprises cords 3 passing obliquely between siderings 14, 15, secured to each wheel 2, and each string 1 passes obliquely through the centre of its wheel. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the rings 14, 15 are independently spaced apart and the string, which lies in the central plane of the wheel, passes between the rings, below or above the intersection of the cords. The cords are tensioned by helical springs 19 arranged between lugs on the rings 14, 15 and on the wheel 2. Alternatively, parts of the cords may be of helical formation. The wheels 2 are pivoted, for movement towards or away from the strings, on the shaft 13 of toothed idlers 11, drivingly connecting the wheels with a shaft 12, driven through flexible shafting by an electro-motor. The bow-keys 10 also lift dampers 22 from the strings. Rosin is carried on the ends of a comb, Fig. 6, adapted to wipe the cords 3. The bow-carrying structure 7 is slidably mounted on a framework 25 which, in the case of a violin, is secured to the fingerboard and button. The speed of the bows may be varied by a regulator controlled by means arranged near the keys 10.
