Convention date, Dec. 31, 1934. [Class 96] In a process for increasing the gloss, whiteness, and print sensitiveness of papers a mixture free from alkali salts of inorganic acids, of fatty acid salts of the light metals of the second group of the periodic system and at least one at least partly saponified resin are added to the paper pulp. The mixture is added as a pasty mass obtained by interaction of alkali salts of fatty acids with oxides or hydroxides of the light metals of the second group, preferably in stages, and combination of the alkali hydroxide liberated during the interaction with colophony. Alternatively the paste is obtained by bringing fatty acid salts of the light metals into homogeneous suspension in the presence of at least one partially saponified resin.
