Abstract

447,307. Printing processes. LOWENSOHN, R., 80, Van Cortlandt Park South, New York, U.S.A. March 6, 1935, No. 7039. Convention date, March 6, 1934. Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (ii)] A method, of printing comprises applying one ink to a part of a type set-up, applying another ink to the entire surface with the latter ink in superposed relation with the first ink on the part of the surface bearing this first ink, and finally printing from the entire set-up in a single impression, the physical properties of the inks being such as to cause contrasting printing from the different portions of the printing-surface. The invention is used to facilitate proof-reading, more particularly when printing, for example, a yearly alphabetical index or the like which is a compilation of four quarterly indexes ; for the second and subsequent quarterly indexes, the first ink is applied to the type representing changes or insertions, so that these changes or insertions appear in a different colour in the proof, and are thereby distinguished from the matter already proof-read. The ink applied to the type to be inserted is preferably a slower drying ink of greater tackiness than the ink applied to the complete set-up, and is also darker in colour. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that any writing, marking, engraving, or impressing materials, whether solid or liquid, and whether dependent on chemical or mechanical action or both, may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
