[Class 114] A screw propeller with relatively thick boss has the profile and angular attack of the blades at various radial distances chosen so that the circulation at the boss itself is zero and thence outwards increases to a maximum, such increase being less rapid than the ratio of the eighth root of the radial distance R from the boss to the half length of the blade Ra. The blades may have the same profile at different angles of attack or different profiles with the same angle or both may vary.
