Abstract

446,682. Portable endless-belt conveyers for loading and stacking. WHITE, A. F., 130, Glendale Avenue, Toronto, Canada. Nov. 3, 1934, No. 31634. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1933. [Class 78 (i)] In a stacking and loading-apparatus, of the kind in which a truck travelling along a permanent-way, carries two conveyers, one of which receives the material and delivers it to the other ; the latter being movable about vertical and horizontal axes to deliver to either side or at the end of the truck, the second conveyer is carried by a boom mounted on a rope - operated turntable at its lower end and carried by a rope passing round a pulley on a mast at its upper end, a common motor being connected alternatively to three rope drums to perform the hoisting and slueing operations. In addition, the motor also traverses the truck along the rails. In the illustrated form the feeding conveyer comprises an endless belt 4 carried in part by a cantilever extension at one end of the carriage, and receiving the material at a suitable point for delivery to a hopper 12, the latter delivering in turn to a hopper 21 which slues with and feeds the delivery or stacking belt conveyer 20. The latter is carried by the boom 19 supported by pulley tackle 27 at its outer end connected to a luffing-drum 40, and pivoted at its inner end to the turntable 13 for slueing. The struts 22 and ties 23 for the boom are mounted to the rear of the axis of the turntable, but preferably overhang the latter so that the swivelling axis 24 of the guide pulley 26 is in vertical alignment with the axis of the turntable. Luffing, slueing, and the traversing of the carriage on the rails are effected from a single motor by closing corresponding clutches, thereby setting alternative sets of gearing in action. For slueing, the ends of a rope passed round the periphery of the turntable are connected to two driven drums in alignment, one of which pays out while the other winds in. Luffing is effected by a drive through a compound spur train, and traversing along the rails by chain-and-sprocket gear driven from the shaft which carries the luffing-drum.
