Abstract

Fibrous materials such as cotton, linen, and paper are rendered non-inflammable and non-hygroscopic by impregnation with an alcoholic solution of neutral or weakly acid urea phosphates and difficulty combustible soluble synthetic resins such as urea- or phenol-formaldehyde condensation products. In the example, phosphoric acid and urea are rubbed together and mixed with a powdered phenol formaldehyde condensation product in its A stage, and the air-dry product is dissolved in methyl or ethyl alcohol. The product is stated to be suitable for clothing and electric insulators. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use of aqueous solution. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
