Abstract

445,406. Hinges. LEFEVRE, E. B. G., 14618, Ashton Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Oct. 11, 1935, No. 28089. [Class 65 (ii)] A concealed hinge, particularly for vehicle doors, comprises members 10, 11, fixed to the door and frame respectively and connected by a link 12 pivoted to them, and a controlling link 13 pivoted at its centre to the middle part of the link 12 and carrying at its ends pins which engage in guide slots or grooves 23, 26, in the members 10, 11 respectively to move the door away from the post after slight initial rotation before allowing the main swinging movement. In the form shown, the link 13 is pivoted on top of link 12, a slot 23 is formed in a flange at the top of member 10, and a groove 26 is formed in a thickened part in the top of member 11. In a modification, the link 13 is made deeper and is pivoted in an aperture in link 12 and has long pins at the ends to engage slot 23 in a flange at the top of member 10 and a slot 26 in a flange at the bottom of member 11, the flanges of members 10, 11 also serving as hinge lugs for the link 13, in conjunction with corresponding flat lugs at the opposite edges of these members.
