Abstract
444,980. Type - printing telegraphy. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION, 270, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lemmon, W. S., and Fitch, C. J.) Feb. 1, 1935, No. 3369. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1934. [Class 40 (iii)] In a type-printing system in which the transmitter and receiver are provided with synchronized distributers, and characters are denoted by the phases in the revolution at which impulses are transmitted so that a particular phase belongs to each character, the depression of a key in the keyboard discharges a condenser and an impulse is transmitted through the charging of the condenser under control of the sending distributer. The same apparatus serves for sending and for receiving. The distributers are synchronized by means described in Specification 442,596. Transmitter. With each key 1 of the keyboard is associated a condenser 11 which is normally charged. When a key 1 is depressed, the condenser is short-circuited and remains discharged until the wiper 7 of the sending distributer reaches the contact 6 corresponding to the key in question. The condenser is then recharged by battery 16 through resistance 15 and contacts 14, and the potential-drop in resistance 15 causes the transmission of a signal by the transmitter 20. A local record is made by type-bars 3 on depression of the kevs. Receiver. For reception the switch 38 is thrown so as to open contacts 14 and close contacts 37. Then an impulse received by the receiver 23 is routed by the distributer 28 to the appropriate magnet 26 which operates a selected type-bar 3 by actuating the corresponding key 1.
