Abstract
Phenol-formaldehyde resin and tricresyl phosphate to be added to chlorinated rubber in the preparation of non-porous moulding and coating compositions may first be heated together at 250 DEG C., until the separation of water has ceased.ALSO:The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the preparation of coating compositions containing chlorinated rubber and natural resins or modified natural resins, esters of such acids as phosphoric, acetic, oxalic or benzoic, chlorinated diphenyl or fatty or hydrocarbon oils. The compositions may be dissolved in suitable solvents such as alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones, hydrocarbons or chlorinated hydrocarbons. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Chlorinated rubber is rendered non-porous by admixture with phenol-formaldehyde resin and tricresyl phosphate. The addition of a wax to such compositions is excluded. The resin may be fully or only partially condensed, and may be mixed with other resins. The compositions may be made into films or shaped bodies, or into coating or impregnating compositions by the use of solvents such as alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones, hydrocarbons or chlorinated hydrocarbons. The tricresyl phosphate and phenol-aldehyde resin may be heated together before admixture with the chlorinated rubber. Specification 401,534 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the addition to chlorinated rubber of the following substances: natural resins, or modified natural resins obtained by re-esterification or alcoholysis or by fusion with or without artificial resins, or precipitated constituents of natural resins; vinyl resins, cyclohexanone resins; esters of adipic acid. With these additions there may also be added alcoholic condensates of phthalic, linoleic, ricinoleic or wood oil acid, or esters of other acids, e.g. phosphoric, acetic, oxalic or benzoic acid, or fatty or hydrocarbon oils, or chlorinated diphenyl. The compositions may be dissolved in suitable solvents. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
