443,643. Brakes. PETTERS, Ltd., BRUCE, R. A., and VOSS, E., Westland Works, Yeovil, Somerset. Sept. 3, 1934, No. 25326. [Class 103 (i)] A brake comprising a fixed braking surface, disc a, and a braking surface, discs v, rotating with the vehicle wheel is operated by a mechanical servo device operated by a friction ring u on one of the discs v, which is driven by the vehicle wheel, the discs v being capable of rotating in a plane inclined to the plane of the wheel in view of the axial freedom of the drive of the discs v, which drive is formed by dogs y and notches z. The foot pedal operates three symmetrically arranged interconnected levers g which by means of pins m and trunnions n turn levers o and spindles p which by short cranks q and rollers r press a servo member t into engagement with the friction ring u on a disc v rotating with the wheel w. The consequent rotational movement given to the member t turns it and a toothed wheel 3 connected thereto and gearing with quadrants 4 adapted to turn spindles 5 and face cams 6 to draw together discs d, d<1> and to grip discs v rotating with the wheel against a fixed disc a. Discs a, d<1>, d<1> are connected together by links 10, 11 which allow relative axial movement. Face cams 6 are connected by splines to spindles 5 and are axially adjustable by using bolts 7.
