Abstract

443,355. Drying webs of fabric. SEABROOK, H., 31, Bedford Street, Strand, London.-(Weisbach Kommanditges., C. H. ; Chemnitz, Germany) Oct. 28, 1935, No. 29721. [Class 34 (i)] To enable two webs of fabric to be dried under independent conditions in the one machine, a perforated rotatable drum 2 arranged for webs to travel thereon and enclosed within a casing 1 is divided into two chambers by means of three partitions 10, 11, 10 arranged transversely of the axis of the drum, the central partition 11 being fixed and the outer partitions 10 adjustable in relation to each other by means of right and left threaded screw spindles 12 engaging nuts fixed to the partitions 10, the spindles being connected with each other by chain-and-sprocket gear for rotation by means of a hand wheel. The space between the drum and the casing is also divided into two chambers by means of a partition 14. Fans 15 drive the air from the drum, past heaters 17 and back again into the drum through the web and the perforations. The two circulating and heating systems work independently so that either two narrow webs can be dried under different conditions or one wide web can be dried with the same condition in both systems. In a modified construction, the screw spindles 12 are divided at the centre and the sections driven independently, so that the partitions 10 can be adjusted separately.
